I am reminded of a party that once got out of control. They can, these parties, when fueled by liquid refreshment, loud music and the "devil may care" attitude that comes with just having fun. The party went into the evening with more and more "refreshments". Somehow --no one confesses and the witnesses are fuzzy at best--a sofa gets put into the outside pool by way of a picture window. Furniture that remains in the house also becomes "degraded" somehow. We shall not speak of the unspeakable conditions of each room, or of the carpeting, walls, ceilings. Neighbors who complain receive abuse, and the police refuse to intervene.
The party continues into the early morning hours with still more refreshments, more music, more damage...until, to the neighbors' great relief, dawn at last comes. Surely now the party will end, the noise cease, the crowd disperse....but no.
The party continues even when the clean up crew arrives to survey and repair the damage. Half full beer cans are thrown at them, names are called, fingers pointed to--them! Not the party goers who have inflicted the damage, but the repair crew. The simple beauty of it. American politics in action.
